San Francisco bans e-cigarettes: Is it legal? Is it safe?

San Francisco will become the first U.S. city to ban e-cigarette sales, after a unanimous vote by its board of supervisors on Tuesday. The mayor has indicated she plans to sign the measure. The city is legally able to pass the ban “unless and until it’s challenged,” according to CBS News legal analyst Rikki Klieman.  In California, Klieman explained, there are ballot initiatives – and “Juul is already prepared to get the signatures to get on the November ballot to absolutely get rid of this ordinance.” “Juul may carry the day,” she added, “because adults — particularly adults in places like … Continue reading San Francisco bans e-cigarettes: Is it legal? Bethlehem OK’s moratorium on vape shops

Measure will give town time to consider new zoning rules. The Bethlehem Town Board voted Wednesday night to impose a six-month moratorium on permitting new vape shops while the town studies potential zoning laws that would dictate where they could be located. Jim Foster was the sole board member to vote against the moratorium, arguing that the measure was “political showmanship” that wouldn’t solve the problem of underage tobacco use. “It is political grandstanding at its worst,” Foster said. However, Town Supervisor David VanLuven and other board members said the temporary ban was merely designed to give the town planning … Continue reading Bethlehem OK’s moratorium on vape shops

Vaping: Controversial, but it has saved lives

Recently, there’s been a lot of discussion surrounding proposed legislation to ban flavored vaping products. I’ve seen and read many articles that cast vaping in a negative light. But, before you throw the baby out with the bathwater, I encourage you to consider the true impacts. Restricting access to flavored vapor products is restricting access to a product that has saved lives and helped smokers quit- including myself. I was a smoker who made many attempts to quit smoking cigarettes. I tried many different techniques—cold turkey, cutting back, reducing nicotine strengths—nothing worked. The uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms hurt my body and affected my personality, I would … Continue reading Vaping: Controversial, but it has saved lives

Langley school to warn students after vape juice playground incident

Students will receive talks about the dangers of picking up unknown objects after five R.C. Garnett Demonstration School students in Langley were taken to hospital last week after handling a bottle of vape liquid. A letter to parents from R.C. Garnett Principal Adam Woelders gave some more details on the incident. The five students involved were handling a bottle of vaping fluid they found on the grass near the school’s softball diamond, Woelders wrote to parents, and they came into contact with the contents of the bottle. Adapting to Tobacco Category Evolution

As regulations erect roadblocks to tobacco sales, c-store retailers expand into alternate segments in hope of finding new ways to grow sales. Throughout the first half of 2019, the tobacco category has been inundated with proposed legislative restrictions. One Hawaii lawmaker attempted to graduate the minimum purchase age to 100 (it soon fizzled out in committee). Last month, the Beverly Hills City Council scheduled a vote to ban the sale of all tobacco products from any retailer in the California city other than cigar lounges and upscale hotels. And of course, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed a … Continue reading Adapting to Tobacco Category Evolution

San Francisco becomes 1st major US city to ban e-cigarettes

San Francisco became the first major U.S. city Tuesday to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes that have not undergone the required Food and Drug Administration (FDA) review. “This is a decisive step to help prevent another generation of San Francisco children from becoming addicted to nicotine,” City Attorney Dennis Herrera said in a statement. “The U.S. Surgeon General has warned that we’re in the midst of a youth vaping epidemic,” Herrera added. “San Francisco is taking action to protect our kids. “This temporary moratorium wouldn’t be necessary if the federal government had done its job. E-cigarettes are a product that, by law, are not … Continue reading San Francisco becomes 1st major US city to ban e-cigarettes
