Ban on flavored vaping products will kill small businesses like mine

I own a small vape and smoke shop in Sacramento. I pay taxes, I pay rent and I pay employees. My small business is how I support my family. The City of Sacramento is proposing to pass an ordinance banning the sale of all flavored tobacco products in the city limits. The ordinance is not limited to actual tobacco products, but also includes e-cigarettes and all vapor products. A ban of all flavored vapor products will result in an actual ban on all vapor products, since there is no such thing as an unflavored vapor product. At my store, vapor … Continue reading Ban on flavored vaping products will kill small businesses like mine

US lawmaker faults FDA chief for lax oversight of teen vaping

U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey criticized Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb for delaying a regulation that would have temporarily removed electronic cigarettes from the market this year, saying it helped fuel an epidemic in teen use and calling it a “big, big whopping mistake.” The FDA in 2016 said companies would need to submit e-cigarettes already on the market for review in 2018. These products would have been able to stay on shelves for another year while the FDA reviewed companies’ submissions. In 2017, Gottlieb extended the application deadline to 2022 from 2018. “The FDA’s decision to take its foot off … Continue reading US lawmaker faults FDA chief for lax oversight of teen vaping

DJ’s Vapes: The Vape Shop That Gives Hope To Vaping In Vietnam

If you walk into a vape shop in New York or LA, you’re likely to meet someone behind the counter who is willing to take the time, for free, to teach you the ins and outs of your device. You simply have to want to learn. It’s counterintuitive to the usual, efficient style of a salesperson, whose job is to push a product on you. This sensei-deshi culture in vaping arose because the survival of vaping, in the face of Big Tobacco lobbyists worldwide, depends on community. Saigon doesn’t seem to know it yet, but we already have our own … Continue reading DJ’s Vapes: The Vape Shop That Gives Hope To Vaping In Vietnam

VESTAL (WBNG) — New York State is moving one step closer to banning flavored e-liquid. Wednesday the State Senate Health Committee passed the bill that will now move to the full senate, with the goal of cutting the rising number of children using e-cigarettes. The bill would ban all e-cigarette flavors except tobacco and menthol if passed. “With the flavors of the e-cigs they’re incredibly attractive to youth,” said Broome County Tobacco Control Educator Sharon Fischer. “They smell good they taste good and most youth think they’re harmless.” Fischer said while the bill wouldn’t completely fix the problem, “Banning flavors will … Continue reading Vestal vape shop fears proposed flavored e-cig ban could shut its doors

Proposed legislation takes aim at regulation of tobacco products

Proposed legislation that recently passed in the state House of Representatives seeks to bar communities from enacting laws regulating tobacco products. The proposal, which passed by a 69-37 vote, comes amid Myrtle Beach aiming to do just that. It would prohibit cities and counties from signing off on laws regarding ingredients, flavors or licensing of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, tobacco products or “alternative nicotine products.” This wouldn’t apply to laws enacted prior to Jan. 1, 2019. With a federal lawsuit looming, Myrtle Beach leaders recently implemented a citywide moratorium on vape shops. The ordinance passed the required final reading after Jan. 1. … Continue reading Proposed legislation takes aim at regulation of tobacco products

Proposed E-Cigarette tax could bring in money for the state but hurt vape shops

PEORIA, I’ll (WEEK) – Illinois could soon impose a tax on e-cigarettes that would help the state bring in an additional $10 million dollars in revenue as it looks to improve on its services and pay down debt including a backlog of bills and $133 billion dollar pension shortfall. In his budget address on Feb.20, Gov. J.B. Pritzker is calling for more taxes on e-cigs and a cigarette tax increase that would help bring in more revenue to support medicaid. But the tax that potentially could help that state might have an impact on ex-smokers that use e-cigs to quit traditional … Continue reading Proposed E-Cigarette tax could bring in money for the state but hurt vape shops
