Nicotine salts: A new way to quit smoking

Vapers are using a new kind of nicotine to make the switch away from smoking. It promises a higher nicotine concentrate without the uncomfortable throat hit. A short while ago we looked at how people use nicotine in their vape to help quit smoking. Since that time, another form of concentrated nicotine has hit the market, and many vapers are switching to it if they have not had success quitting smoking with regular nicotine. This new solution is known as nicotine salts. Regular liquid nicotine – otherwise known as freebase nicotine – is a volatile non-bonded solution that registers about an … Continue reading Nicotine salts: A new way to quit smoking

STONE: Vaping isn’t restricted to nicotine

In 2003, a 52 year-old Chinese pharmacist invented and created the first commercially successful electronic cigarette, an electronic device that stimulates the feeling of smoking and works by heating a liquid to generate an aerosol (or vapor) that is inhaled. His motivation stemmed from his father dying of lung cancer and wanted a “safer” alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes. By 2006, e-cigarettes were introduced in the European market and shortly after would find their way to the United States. Fast forward to present day and it’s not uncommon to find users of this device among various age groups, races, and … Continue reading STONE: Vaping isn’t restricted to nicotine

The Juul Comes to School – But Also to the Aid of Adult Smokers in India

As global and local e-cigarettes gain a foothold, opinion is divided on how the benefits to adult smokers balance with the cost of their popularity with teens. New Delhi: “I like cucumber best.” So says 17-year-old Ishaan over Whatsapp. He’s not talking about vegetables, obviously. Cucumber is his favourite Juul flavour, even if it’s not one of the most popular. Those would be mango, or crème brulee. Right here I’m obliged to say the two things everyone always says when a Juul is mentioned. It looks like an especially sleek USB thumb-drive. It’s the iPhone of the smoking industry. If this gives … Continue reading The Juul Comes to School – But Also to the Aid of Adult Smokers in India

Juul’s imitators are copying the popular vape’s high nicotine levels

The popularity of Juul and its high-nicotine pods is driving up nicotine levels across the vaping industry in what Stanford researchers are calling a “nicotine arms race,” according to a new study. The findings back up suspicions that Juul’s competitors are watching the vaping giant closely to capitalize on the largely unregulated multi-billion-dollar e-cigarette market. Researchers with Stanford Research Into the Impact of Tobacco Advertising investigated the nicotine levels that Juul imitators advertised. They looked at pods compatible with Juul devices or Juul-like knockoffs, as well as e-juice bottles for refillable pods and vapes. Their study, published Wednesday in the journal Tobacco Control and first covered by CNN, … Continue reading Juul’s imitators are copying the popular vape’s high nicotine levels

COMMENTARY: Banning e-cig flavors will drive people back to smoking

BY NOW, we are all aware that the use of flavored e-cigarettes and vaping products is running rampant in this country. A recent survey of one particular age group of electronic cigarette users (vapers) revealed that 85 percent prefer flavored e-cigarettes, including 74 percent who use fruit flavors and 66 percent who use dessert or pastry flavors. Nearly half (49 percent) of these vapers regularly used candy, chocolate or other sweet-flavored e-liquids. If you think we’re talking about teenagers, think again. The study in question was a survey of adult vapers in the United States; specifically, adult ex-smokers who had … Continue reading COMMENTARY: Banning e-cig flavors will drive people back to smoking
